Thorstein B. Veblen

Veblen Thorstein B. (1857–1929), americký sociolog, zabýval se evoluční sociologií a ekonomií. Byl ovlivněn sociálními darwinisty Herbertem Spencerem, Williamem Grahamem Sumnerem, pragmatistou Williamem Jamesem. Byl radikálním kritikem ekonomie Karla Marxe. Je autorem koncepce okázalé marnotratné spotřeby a zahálčivé bohaté třídy. Dílo: The Theory of the Leisure Class (1899) – vyšlo česky s názvem Teorie zahálčivé třídy (1999), Theory of Business Enterprise (1904), Imperial Germany and the Industrial Revolution (1915), The Vested Interests and the Common Man (1919), The Place of Science in Modern Civilization and other essays (1919), The Engineers and the Price System (1921), Essays in Our Changing Order (1927).
